Modular furniture design as micro-architecture

The project of these furnishings, with Anna Bicego, won the First Prize at the “National Furniture Competition” organized by the Tuscany region and the prototype was created by Poltronova. It is the union of different “types” of furniture: wall units, chests, seats, sideboards, flaps as backrests, etc… so as to have a micro-architecture that acts as a pantry, library, dividing wall and door.

Each furniture is designed to be use either individually or in composition, leaving the user the freedom of use and assembly: the furnitures, without handle and openable parts, are characterized by extreme simplicity and draw upon some “traditional types” of Italian furniture. Among these the chest that, in addition of containing and working as a seats, give shape to three steps that allow easy access to the shelfs.

The sideboard can be used in all its height and from both sides, separating two distinct spaces. The folding part next to the chest can also work as a backrest. In this way the furniture, depending on the user choice, can form cabins, micro-architectures that serves as pantry, library, wall partitions and also doors.
