The refurbishment is based on the conservation of the architectural model particularly regarding the retention of the Southern front , highly characterized by the double height hayloft in which the tuff pillars emerged like unique typical signs of the object inside the landscape. It was decided to preserve the gigantic order of the nineteenth-century composition keeping the new slabs moved back. In this way the new floor slabs are covered with full heigh glass and steel elements that allow also to rebuilt the absence of delimitation between the courtyard and hayloft that is typical of the original building. This was obtained thanks to the partial re-design and re-composition of steel profiles of different series. The relationship between solids and voids of the facades has been studied in relation to the typical rhythms of rural artifacts of that period still present in the area. In this intervention the new realizations are inserted in the existing context using materials and technologies identical or similar to the original used in the area: the “canton” (local tuff), bricks, “piemontese roof tile”, iron and steel for bigger doors and windows, wood for smaller ones. Special masonry mortar and paints for doors and windows have also been sampled and specifically created.

From a structural point of view the central span has been increased to widen the living rooms using traditional roofing techniques such as tree trunks that can go up to 12 meters span, avoiding highest  performing material that would have been less integrated with the context. In the basement there is an area for storing and tasting wines produced from the vineyards that surround the Farmhouse. Basically the project works on the virtual dialogue between the architectural type and the building type, preserving traditional aspects of use in his relationship with the courtyard, the vineyards and farms in general, adding spaces for relationship and expanding the rooms. Over time the New Farmhouse has been appreciated by the client and his guests because it can combines ease of use and respect for traditions becoming the reference fo various resident of Monferrato and being published with emphasis from the local press
